Off-roading is a great way to spend a fun afternoon on the weekends, but in order to do it, you need the right powersports vehicles. There are many different types of powersports vehicles on the market, including ATVs, UTVs, and motorcycles, so it’s important to understand the differences between them before you choose one.

ATVs

All-terrain vehicles, also known as ATVs, quads, or four-wheelers, are a type of powersports vehicle ridden straddle-style like a motorcycle and operated using handlebars instead of a steering wheel. Typically, ATVs can only handle the weight of the operator, with a few models capable of supporting a second passenger. There is not much cargo space on quads, so you’ll have to wear a backpack to carry your gear. You’ll also need a helmet and other pieces of riding gear in order to operate your ATV safely.

UTVs

Utility terrain vehicles, also known as UTVs or side-by-sides, are similar to ATVs, but they tend to be larger and are operated using a steering wheel and gas/brake pedals. Side-by-sides can accommodate anywhere from two to six passengers at a time in bench or bucket-style seats arranged. There is typically more cargo space on these vehicles and they tend to be used for more heavy-duty work tasks, but can still be fun to ride on a local trail.

Motorcycles

Coming in a wide variety of styles, including both street motorcycles and dirt bikes, motorcycles are a popular choice with many outdoor enthusiasts. You can find motorcycles for commuting, for competitive riding, and for simple leisure rides out in the countryside.
